Communities Increase Recycling While Saving Money

For over a decade, SWACO has assisted Franklin County communities in competitively and collaboratively bidding for waste hauling services.

The SWACO Community Solid Waste & Recycling Consortium Program is voluntary and increases negotiating power for communities when contracting for solid waste, recycling, and yard waste collection services. Twenty-one communities currently participate and as a result pay lower costs for better, more robust services.

Consortium III – New Contracts
Grove City, Urbancrest and Jackson Township make up Consortium III. SWACO assisted them in securing new service contracts this fall.

The new contracts serve 14,000 households through 2020. All approved contracts went into effect in January 2017.

The new monthly collection and disposal cost of $14.45 per household goes into effect this month. In conjunction with the new contract, each household received a 64 gallon red recycling cart – more than 3 ½ times that of the existing 18 gallon container.

Statistics show that recycling increases when container size increases. Early results indicate that collections amounts have nearly doubled.
