SWACO’s Scholarship Program helps remove financial barriers to higher education while supporting students who are preparing for careers in sustainability, environmental science, engineering, solid waste management and related fields.
Each year, SWACO awards one eligible student a scholarship to help support their education at an accredited community college, four-year college or university.

The SWACO Scholarship application is open to eligible students pursuing an education in a field related to sustainability, environmental science, engineering, solid waste management or a related field.
Eligibility requirements
Applicants must meet all of the following requirements:
- Be a graduating high school student with a minimum of 20 credit units or a graduating GED student.
- Be accepted for enrollment at an accredited community college, four-year college or university.
- Reside within SWACO’s District and have been accepted to an accredited college or university, or reside outside SWACO’s District and plan to attend an accredited college or university within SWACO’s District.
- Pursue a degree in environmental science, environmental studies, engineering or another field applicable to solid waste management.

What does the scholarship cover?
SWACO awards one scholarship of $2,500 per academic year, with a maximum award of $10,000 over four years.
Scholarship funds may be used toward eligible educational expenses, including:
- Tuition
- Fees
- Books
Scholarship funds cannot be used for housing expenses.
